Aqualyx is made from plant-based compounds and the active component (deoxycholic acid) occurs naturally in the body. Deoxycholic acid breaks down the fat, dissolving the membranes of fat cells in the treated area. The damaged fat cells are absorbed and eliminated by the body.

Unlike liposuction, Aqualyx treatment has the secondary effect of tightening the skin in the treated area, so your skin should feel more contoured and toned.

We use local anaesthetic during the treatment to ensure it is not painful. Once the anaesthetic has worn off you might experience a degree of pain, but this can be managed with over-the-counter painkillers and tends to fade within 24 hours. Swelling and bruising will clear after 7-10 days, and any lingering tenderness can take up to 4 weeks to resolve.

After 4-5 weeks, you should see a reduction of around 2cm of fat in the treatment area, and a course of 2-4 treatments will see further improvement. The dissolved fat won’t return, and as such results are permanent as long as a healthy lifestyle is maintained. Fat-dissolving injections are for targeting localised pockets of fat but are not a solution for overall weight loss.
